In the United States, approximately 1 in 31 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This translates to about 3.2% of 8-year-old children. Boys are more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls, with a prevalence of about 4% in boys compared to 1% in girls(source: Autism Speaks).  My name is Otis LaSalle and I, like many other parents a have children and loved ones that we care for who are special needs or on the autism spectrum, who are growing up in a world that is forever changing at a fast rate, so fast at times it feels like they're being left behind. As parents/ caregivers of children/adults with autism spectrum disorders and many other special needs, we move with purpose, power, and peace — unbothered by the silent judgement or opinions of others that try to limit us or our children. We choose self-respect over people-pleasing, growth over gossip, and truth over approval. Our world is a space for real ones only — for those who know that not everyone deserves a seat at our table. To anyone trying to dim our light, distract our focus, minimize our efforts, or drain our energy, we say it loud and clear: Fuk Them People!. -Love Otis
